This spectacular Key West Victorian estate was built around 1900 by Benjamin and Mary Fegarty Trevor. Miss Mary was the daughter
of Jeremiah and Rosella Bartium, one of many English loyalists, who left the Southern Colonies for the Bahamas and eventually
returned via Key West. Mr Trevor opened the first steam laundry in Key West in the early part of the century and served as Mayor
from 1903 till 1905. This house has been a church and the Key West Woman's Club, as well sas a private residence.
A major renovation in the '70s by talented local antique dealers won first place from the Old Island Restoration Foundation. In 2000 another complete restoration was finished. This grand old home has wrap around verandahs overlocking a lush garden and large sunny swimming pool. Predominantly Victorian features include the asymmetry of design, bay windows, two-pane double-hung windows and decorative porch details. The front door from the "Southernmost House", is a gift from its owner. The main house has four bedrooms and four-and-one half baths, decorated with European flair. The Cottage has three bedrooms and three baths, and is situated on its own corner lot, with seperate covered pation, spa and gardens. Approximately 2.900 square feet in the main house plus 1.100 square feet in the cottage total over 4.000 square feet on 14.000 square feet of land. Lots of house ... lots of land ... lots of history! |
